Title
Anglo-Scandinavian cheekpiece fragment. Drawing by David Williams.
Description
English: A harness cheekpiece fragment of Williams Type 2; one of a pair which sat at either end of an iron bit. This fragment is broken across the hole which held the end of the bit in place. The elongated terminal ends in a rounded swelling and a knob. The back is plain. The surface of the cheek piece is decorated with an inscribed lobe and opposed spirals - a common motif in late Viking art - and bordering lines. The lower part of the lobe is formed by the rounded edge of the object.

This find is published in Williams (2007, 3; fig. 3e)
