Title
English: Abraham Schwabacher and granddaughter Babette Eckstein, circa 1908
Description
English:

Abraham Schwabacher (circa 1838-1909), was one of three brothers, Bavarian-born Jewish merchants, who were important in the economic development of the Washington Territory and later Washington State. They owned several businesses bearing their family name, first in San Francisco, then in Walla Walla, Washington, and later in Seattle. Abraham was married to Sarah Lehrberger (1847-1942) in Portland in 1869 and had two sons and two daughters. Their daughter, Mina (1877-1942), was married to Nathan Eckstein (1873-1945) who later became vice-president of Schwabacher and Co., and had two daughters, Johanna and Babette. This photograph shows Babette Eckstein (1906-1977) with her grandfather Abraham Schwabacher in about 1908.
