Title
A complete copper-ally Roman wheel brooch
Description
English: A complete copper-ally Roman wheel brooch. The hinged pin and catch plate are complete and still in working order although the end of the pin is misshapen. The front surface of the brooch is heavily decorated. The brooch has a central pointed boss which has an ornate decoration of 6 sub-oval projections or 'spokes' which radiate outward from the central knob. Each spoke has a central depression which has caused the edges to be inverted in a v-shape. This has been separately applied and the end of the attachment spike can be seen on the back of the brooch. This central feature is set into a concave in the plate which is edged with a ridge this is then is enclosed by two concentric circles around the brooches edge. This wheel brooch dates from the late second century to the late third century.
