English: This story was collected in conjunction with the national traveling exhibition "Hometown Team: How Sports Shape America" by the Museum on Main Street program at the Smithsonian Institution. It is part of the "Be Here: Main Street" collection, intended to capture Americans' stories about their neighborhoods, waterways, towns, traditions, and personal experiences. #bHereMainSt
Teacher: Okay, 4th graders, I’m going to ask you a question. What do you like best about sporting events? Student 1: I like to play them because I like to run and I like to play, and I like to watch them too because I like to see what they do. Student 2: What I like the best is . . . it gets you active, and I love living a healthy life. Student 3: I like watching them because . . . to see what team would win. Student 4: I like to watch them . . . I like to see what team would win. Teacher: Did any of you guys watch the World Series last night? Student 1: I didn’t. Student 2: I didn’t either. Student 3: I don’t have cable. Student 4: I did not watch it. Teacher: Does anyone know what type of history was made in the World Series last night? Student 1: No. Student 2: No, not really. Student 3: I’m not sure. Teacher: What teams were in the World Series last night? Student 1: Ohio? Student 2: Oh, Michigan and Michigan State? Is that what you’re talking about?
