Summary

[edit]
Description
English: The totality of the 2017 solar eclipse.
English: The totality of the 2017 solar eclipse. The moon perfectly blocks the light from the sun, allowing the solar corona to be visible for a brief moment. The interesting shapes of the corona are caused by the Sun's magnetic field. You can also see hot spots around the edge of the moon's black disk which are solar flares reaching out into space from the surface of the Sun. Finally, this image grants a true sense of scale of the solar system as you can see Mercury in the bottom left quadrant of the image.
